What stands out about the Mercedes Museum near Stuttgart is that it more than just the story of Mercedes Benz vehicles – it is also about the history of the origins of the car. The top two floors of the museum show how the car was invented by two enterprising geniuses, Gottfried Daimler and Carl Benz, that had the good good sense and good fortune to pool their resources and work together rather than compete. Each had his own approach. Daimler was converting existing chassis to a real “horseless carriage” while Benz was starting from scratch, designing a self propelling vehicle from the ground up. An interesting part of history that poignant today as we move into the age of electric vehicle and self-driving cars. the Mercedes Museum is part of our German Automotive Engineering tour.
